Most Parents Ignore These Possible Signs of Dyslexia

Most people know the typical signs of dyslexia such as confusing left and right, flipping letters, or writing the letters of a word in the wrong order. But other, more subtle signs could also indicate dyslexia, or a tendency towards developing it.
These signs include:
Sign 1: Avoiding reading and homework
You might think your child is just lazy or doesn’t like school work, but it could be because engaging with written work takes more energy for them.
Sign 2: Using pictures in a book to make sense of what is written
You might think your child is just a visual learner, but perhaps they need to rely on pictures because of an underlying difficulty with words.
Sign 3: Skipping words when reading aloud
You might think it was just a silly mistake, but it could be because of the quick, 3D thinking typical of dyslexics.
Sign 4: Spelling words correctly one day but incorrectly another day
You might think your child just forgot how to spell a word, but if they worked hard to learn the spelling of words and then spell those words incorrectly the next day, it may be because of a deeper issue.
This is not to be alarmist. Just because your child shows some of these signs does not necessarily mean they are dyslexic. But if your child shows many of these signs or consistently shows some of them, it might mean that they have dyslexia or are prone towards developing it.
Rather pay attention to these signs than ignore them. The typical signs of dyslexia are sometimes only noticed at an older age, and by then your child could have learned some bad habits that will make their journey of overcoming dyslexia longer.
If you think your child might have dyslexia or is prone towards developing it, keep an eye on our blog and social media pages (buttons below) for some practical tips. The most effective thing to do is to teach them a phonetic approach to reading. You can also book a free consultation with me for professional help:
